In March 2024 I embarked on an Artist Residency in the Laikipia Region of Kenya. I spent the following 3 months exploring the wonders of the Lolldaiga Hills Conservancy and capturing the diverse wildlife that enhabited the area.

There were many families of elephant that frequented the watering holes and cedar forests and thus I had plentiful encounters with these majestic creatures. One such encounter included this huge bull elephant who silently appeared out of the thicket and loomed into the sunlight. His quiet and gentle approach took my breath away and I was immediately inspired to capture his essence.

My guide, James, suggested the drawing be name Sangalai, a Samburu name given to bull elephants that roam the Savannah alone. It resonated perfectly and Voila!

This is an original wildlife art piece that will be sold mounted and  framed as seen in the product photo.
