Dragonflies are fascinating and beautiful creatures. 
I was sitting in a sunny spot by the window in the summer when I noticed a bright blue dragonfly dart straight past me, followed by another, then another and another! Watching their delicate wings dancing from side to side and darting out of sight without a seconds notice I new dragonflies would be on my drawing board very soon.
 
Did you know that dragonflies were the first winged insect to evolve and have therefore been arounf for some 300 million years?
I certainly didn't! 
Dragonflies nowadays have a wingspan of between 2 and 5 inches, however millions of years ago they are reported to have had a wingspan of up to 2 feet! Can you imagine how incredible (and slightly terrifying) these flying arrows would have been back then.
 
Meanwhile, here is a brilliant blue dragonfly sunbathing on a wheat branch.
